- This documented is intended for the die-hard player of Football
- Fanatic who wants to know more about the game.
- All parts were compiled from the notes of Luis de Barros,
- Geoffrey Downey and Derek Fobe, the designers of the game.

- Division Standings
-
- Division tables were a source of some heated debates between
- us. The Serie A does it one way. The Premiership does it
- another. La Liga has their system. As far as we know, no two
- leagues in Europe (except England and Scotland) use the same
- system.
-
- The division tables calculations are as follows:
-
- 1. Points (3 points for a win, 1 point for a tie).
- 2. Goal difference.
- 3. Goals scored.
- 4. Away wins.
-
-
- EFL Cup Elimination
-
- How is a team eliminated in a two leg series?
- The game will look at the following (in this order):
- 1. Victories. You may have 1:0 away and then battle to 4:4
- draw at home but you'll get through.
- 2. Aggregate score.
- 3. Away goals rule. Each goal scored is worth twice as much
- as a goal scored at home.
-
- If both teams are still dead-locked after this, extra time
- will be played (or sudden-death/golden-goal). Keep in mind that
- extra-time is considered to be on neutral ground, a goal scored
- in extra-time by the away team is worth the same as a goal scored
- by the home-team in extra time. Obviously, the home team has an
- advantage.
- If the teams score the same amount of goals during extra
- time, penalty kicks will come in effect (except when the sudden-death system is introduced, teams will then play until the cows
- come home).
-
- EFL Cup Draw
-
- You may have noticed that the first round draw has 1st/2nd
- division teams facing 3rd/4th division teams. The reason behind
- this is the organizers of the EFL would certainly want to make
- EFL Cup competition attractive by ensuring the top teams stay in
- it as long as possible.
- The assignment of top divisions teams to lower divisions
- teams is completely random.
-
-
- Elite Cup Draw
-
- Completely random. No rhyme nor reason for the draw. It is
- the most unpredictable cup competition in Footy.
- Initially we had the Elite Cup arranged according to last
- season's rankings, i.e. 1st placed team would play the 16th
- placed one, the 2nd would face the 15th, etc but we decided to
- make it a bit more interesting.
-
-
- Toto Cup Draw (off-season)
-
- Again completely random. When non-EFL are allowed to play
- their selection is also random.
- The two top teams from groups 1 and 2 in the first round
- merge to form Group 1 in the second round. The same for groups 3
- and 4.
- Initially (back in 1995) we took the the top 8 teams from
- the first round into the second round, and grouped them into two
- groups containing 1st, 3rd, 5th and 7th teams, and the second
- group would have the 2nd, 4th, 6th and 8th ranked teams. We
- scrapped it because it made the Toto Cup a competition just for
- Serie A and B teams.
-
-
- Toto Cup Venues (off-season)
-
- A total of 15 different stadiums will host the Toto Cup.
- Each group in each round will be assigned two stadiums which will
- be assigned 3 games each. If you're not participating in the EFL
- Cup and your stadium is selected to host a group then you will
- earn some additional money.
- The Final game is played in an Serie A venue. Round 1 games
- will be held in Serie D stadiums. Serie C get to cover round 2.
- Two stadiums in Serie B are used for the third round.
-
-
- Toto Cup Standings (off-season)
-
- The teams are ranked in the following order:
-
- 1. Points
- 2. Goal difference
- 3. Goals Scored
-
-
- Player Suspensions
-
- Although cards are given out in Toto Cup matches,
- friendlies, testimonial matches, and World Club Cup finals, these
- are magically erased from one to the other.
- During the regular season, Footy does not differentiate
- between cards giving out during league games from cup games.
- Suspensions are in effect until the next game is played. So if
- you have an off-week the suspension remains until you play a
- match. Players placed on the reserve team respect the same
- rules.
-
-
- Cup Final Venues
-
- Four distinct and classy venues will host each one of the
- Cup Finals.
- Wembley Stadium gets the EFL Cup Final.
- Grand Stade has the Elite Cup Final.
- Comunale hosts the Toto Cup Final (when played in the
- regular season).
- Maracana Stadium contains the World Club Cup Final.
-
- World Club Cup
-
- The opponent in the World Club Cup is chosen randomly. We
- had big plans for it, but unfortunately we had an even bigger
- deadline.
-
-
- EFL Qualification Voting
-
- What a biased bunch they are. We're talking about the EFL
- club chairmen (and chairwomen). Each one selects 8 teams they'd
- like to see battling it out giving their favourite 8 points and
- their lowest choice one point.
- Teams will vote differently, mostly depending on the
- nationality of a team. The voters will more than likely vote for
- teams from their own country, and for teams from 3 "friendly"
- countries. An English team, for example, will also vote for
- Scotland, Norway and Italy. A Danish team will also favourably
- vote for Norway, Sweden and Finland. A Portuguese team would
- support Spain, Italy and France. Please don't read too much to
- it, we're not politicians!
- Equally important is the player talent in the squad. If the
- team is crap, then not too many votes will go their way.
- Similarly, style of play is also a factor. Each team has
- their own ideas of what would be an attractive opponent depending
- on what style they are currently playing.
- If the applicant has played before in the EFL then that will
- help them get some more votes.
- The number of applicants is random, up to a maximum of 16
- teams.
-
-
- EFL Qualification Draw
-
- The team that was ranked first will play the eight ranked
- team, the 2nd ranked team will play the 7th team, etc.
-
-
- EFL new entrants and contract proposals
-
- One limitation we had to place in the game was that the user
- will never be offered a contract from a new entrant. The reason
- for this is that when weighing the offers, the game will look at
- last season's league and cup results. The new teams don't have
- any. This caused some serious problems.
-
-
- Staff Creation
-
- Some of you may not notice this but staff members will
- retire and be replaced. A vast majority of the new staff added
- are reetired players. They will take positions as head/assistant
- coaches, reserve/youth coaches or scouts. Medics will replaced
- by randomly generated replacements.
-
-
- CPU Teams and player contracts
-
- When using the "I" function while browsing through the cpu
- team rosters you'll notice some weird contracts unlike your own
- players' contracts. The reason for this is that we had to relax
- the cpu teams a bit or they would keep a player indefinitely, or,
- even worse, they would buy a player and then sell him the
- following week.
-
-
- CPU Teams getting dropped back one division
-
- You may notice cpu teams being dropped from a higher
- division when playing in generic mode. This happnes because they
- can't satisfy stadium capacity requirements.
-
-
-
- Transfer Market - Scouting
-
- When looking for players using the search option keep in
- mind that "Value" does not translate to "Price". A player may be
- worth one figure, but a club may ask for much more to release
- him.
-
-
- Player Information
-
- Past Teams
- The list of teams shown for a player are the teams with
- which the player finished the regular season season.
-
- Win-Draw-Loss record
- The win-draw-loss record shown on Page 1 of the Player
- information box refers to league matches only.
-
- Cup games and goals
- Only includes regular season cup game (no off-season Toto
- Cup and WCC)
-
-
- Player Values
-
- Player values increase as your progress through your career
- due to inflation. In season 20, you could end up paying 20
- million for a player that would cost 10 million in season 1.
